Lots of good news!
Whilst I’m not exactly a Tigger I do love the constant stream of happy things in life.
Today is my birthday and will result in lots of little bonuses.
An example of some good news is that my son rang me last weekend to say he was visiting Stockport. Is this unheard of? The teenager currently lodging with us probably doesn’t know where Stockport is and regularly goes to Manchester.
Even this morning some more good business news for Stockport. We will certainly need it with the inevitable business slow-down that the corona virus containment measures will cause. Some time ago M&S closed and left Stockport.
Whilst I’m not a fan of shopping in M&S (many sad memories as a kid of looking at underwear and woolly pullovers with my Mum) it was another blow to the retail sector. More bad news when it turned out the place was ‘infected’ with asbestos. The M&S was strategic, plonked right in the middle of the shopping centre, it also linked the precinct with Princess St. Customers could leave M&S and visit the shops on Princess St. M&S Stockport was also the place I bought my flat cap.
On a positive side there are people at Stockport Council working hard to make Stockport a place fit for the 21st Century. From my perspective, as a small business, I often haven’t much of an idea to what plans there are a foot. There are plans for a walkway from the rail station to the bus station; half a mile away down the hill. That seems to me like an odd idea, but what do I know? Public consultation on that is about to start.
Meanwhile, M&S is being stripped of asbestos and is being redeveloped as office units. There is a strange photo published of one part of the inside. It looks like something out of a cgi si-fi film; is this really the inside of M&S? Also, to be rebranded ‘Stok’. I suppose it rhymes with RedRock, the leisure complex close by.
Please post your good business news too!
PS I got a fantastic birthday card from friend who had painted the image on the card. Another small business enterprise.
